microRNA synthesis

Mature microRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of naturally occurring small non coding RNA molecules, approximately 21-25 nucleotides in length. Mature miRNAs form RNA induced silencing complexes (RISC) with other proteins, exerting targeted RNA degradation or translation inhibition effects. microRNAs can partially complement one or more messenger RNA (mRNA) molecules and finely regulate the expression of a gene through the combination of several miRNAs. Their main function is to downregulate gene expression in various ways, including translation inhibition, mRNA shear, and deadenylation (the mechanism of action is shown in the figure below).

miRNAs play a significant role in cell differentiation, biological development, and disease progression, and are increasingly attracting the attention of researchers.
